The matins of Great and Holy Friday is also known as “the Twelve Passion Gospels” service. In it, Gospel passages detailing the events leading to Christ’s crucifixion are read, interspersed with hymns and prayers. The Church leads us to reflect on Christ’s suffering, betrayal, trial, crucifixion, and death.
