St. John the Baptist is the only Ukrainian Catholic Church in Ottawa. The parish has approximately 200 registered families. Because about half the members prefer to follow that Julian calendar, liturgical services are held following both the Julian and Gregorian calendars. All feast days: Christmas, Easter, Epiphany, etc. are celebrated twice – first according to the Gregorian calendar, and then according to the Julian calendar.
In addition to the Parish Council, St. John the Baptist parish has a very active Women’s League (Ukrainian Catholic Women’s League of Canada) consisting of 55 members, and an equally active Knights of Columbus Council (St. Vladimir the Great Council 9557) consisting of 46 members, of whom 15 are 4th degree Knights.
St. John the Baptist also owns a summer camp in the Gatineau Hills, 50km (30miles) north of Ottawa on Newcomb Lake, near St. Pierre de Wakefield.
